The Things You Can Read welcomes you and thanks you for your readership. We, here at The Things You Can Read, ask your help, if you visit our site regularly, please follow us either via email or Google Friend Connect.  Launched on June 7, 2012, our site has already attracted a great deal of attention.  One of the goals of the site is to feature reviews of Children's Picture Books, Young Adult novels and Adult Literary Fiction/Nonfiction.  A second goal for the blog is to be a resource for teachers of English and writing--with examples of student created writing, writing tips, resource links, and the opportunity to pick the brain of a seasoned English teacher.  To spice things up...every now and then, we'll also include random quotes and thoughts on education and life in general, but our ultimate goal is to reach out into the blogosphere and be a "Book Whisperer" and "Writing Whisperer" to children and adults of all ages.   Thank you for your readership.  Here is to a lifetime filled with reading and writing.

Book Blogger Hop: August 16-22, 2013

Were you a born bookworm or did somebody get you into the habit of reading?

My mother is responsible for making me the reader that I am today.  She took me to the library when I was a child, and she read to me at night.  I have wonderful memories associated with reading with my mother.  She also made sure to enroll me in the Scholastic Books Summer Reading Program, which sent a book each week in the mail over the summer break.  Now that I am a mother, I, in turn, am trying to do the same for my children.  Thank you Mom!  I'll add many times in my life, books have been better friends than real people.

Thanks to  Coffee Addicted Writer for hosting Book Blogger Hop!  How would you answer this one?  Let us know your thoughts here at The Things You Can Read.

Happy reading to all! ☮

  1. I was a born bookworm, and my mom also signed me up for a program that sent a book a week (although I don't think it was just over the summer). I still remember how exciting it was to get those books! :)

  2. Mothers are the best teacher and have the most influence. I know it works because I took my son to the library and to story hour and read constantly to him. It works. Keep up the good work, Mom. :)

    Have a great day!!

    Happy Hopping!!

  4. What a wonderful mother and what a one you are in your turn. I wish every child had such a mother. As a teacher I know it makes the difference.

  5. I think it is awesome when moms try to encourage their children to read! I have a 14 month old and it does me good to see her enjoying her little board books. :)
