World Book Night: Sixth Response to Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

In connection with World Book Night, twenty 7th grades students, all of which were light readers, received free copies of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury on the 50th anniversary of its publication.  It was our hope that students receiving the book would write a short response sharing their thoughts about the novel, which would then be sent to worldbooknight.org and now we have our Sixth response!

This book was great, one of my favorites. I like it because it made me think.  I could say hay, I didn't think about it that way.  I also thought it was different how their society was set up.  To think that firemen could be used to start fires and not stop them.

Ray Bradbury writes an exciting book, with a different style than I normally see.  I thoughly enjoyed the book which was full of intrigue and confusion.  I plan to read more of his books soon.

World Book Night Update and Response

In connection with World Book Night, twenty 7th grades students, all of which were light readers, received free copies of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury on the 50th anniversary of its publication.  It was our hope that students receiving the book would write a short response sharing their thoughts about the novel, which would then be sent to worldbooknight.org and now we have our second response!

I found the book  Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury very enjoyable.  However, it was not an easy read.  Thank you for giving me the chance to read this book.

World Book Night U.S. reported the following metrics for its second nationwide campaign, in celebration of World Book Night April 23:
32% sales increase, according to Bookscan, on the regular editions of WBN titles for the year to date, excluding new releases.
130 million market reach--those who saw or heard a WBN print, online, radio or TV message this April, up from 35 million for the first year.
607,000 visitors to WBN's Facebook page during the week of April 22, with a Klout score of 75 for the week.

WBN U.S. executive director Carl Lennertz commented: "These numbers attest to the effectiveness of our community/sharing/reading message. We are engaging a deep and broad base of booklovers in passionate dialogue about the power of books, as well as getting the word out to the population at large about the value of reading."

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is by far one of the most bizarre and tenacious stories I have ever read.  It is also one of my most favorite.  With vivid descriptions and sensory details, as well as, eerily similar aspects to today’s world, it is most deserving of the title CLASSIC.

Countdown to World Book Night: April 23, 2013

Shelf Awareness shared a recent update from World Book Night 2013 stating: With less than a month until World Book Night U.S. on April 23, this is the first of the organization's weekly updates and reminders to the volunteer givers, to bookstores and libraries and to the publishing community: James Patterson has been confirmed for an appearance on CBS This Morning on Friday, April 19. Patterson is also joining Ann Patchett at Parnassus Books, Nashville, Tenn., as one of 12 author events scheduled as part of the Monday, April 22, Kick Off Celebrations. Three WBN Poetry Nights have been added, as well a WBN Theater Evening in conjunction with the Looking Glass Theater production of Still Alice in Chicago. Also confirmed: a recorded interview with WBN U.S. executive director Carl Lennertz will air on 100 local NPR stations the week of April 15, and a WBN story will run in the April issue of American Way magazine. More media updates next week. Givers, booksellers and libraries are also getting regular e-mail updates, and being reminded to go to the Resources section at us.worldbooknight.org to download signs, bookmarks, press release templates and much more. Booksellers have been mailed WBN book stickers for regular edition displays, as well as posters to stores and libraries by request.  Special guests will be in attendance Tuesday, April 9, at 6 p.m., at the AAP offices, 71 Fifth Ave., 2nd floor, for a WBN U.S. celebration. World Book Night: Planning Underway for 2013

Plans are in motion for next year's World Book Night U.S., which will take place on April 23. Voting for the WBN 2013 picks by a panel of librarians, independent booksellers and Barnes & Noble buyers is underway. The long list of book candidates was derived from IndieBound Picks, B&N Discover Picks, bookseller and librarian suggestions, ReadingGroupGuides.com's most requested book group guides, GoodReads' Top 100s and Above the Treeline's top 300 paperback bestsellers for the past year, In addition, this year's volunteer book givers were asked to send in book recommendations. "We want the givers, booklovers all, to be heard, and to keep them part of this process year-round," said Carl Lennertz, executive director of WBN U.S. "Our enthusiastic army of book givers submitted 20,000 lines of suggestions, and the top 50 titles were folded into the long list to be voted on by the panel. The book picks and the giver application process will be announced in the fall.” A new WBN steering committee has been meeting and WBN is establishing subcommittees, including media strategy, author events, fundraising & sponsorship, friends of WBN, and book production & logistics. Members will be announced in August.
