What is a Two-Voice poem? 

A two-voice poem is a poem written in three columns, where two different perspectives are explored as in a dialogue. The purpose of a two-voice poem is to show the different perspectives as well as similarities of two sides. These poems are meant to be read out loud, in pairs, where the voices alternate/ take turns, and sometimes speak in unison.

How do I write poetry for two voices?

Just like all poetry, poems for two voices need an idea. Your two voices will come from our unit on the Titanic.   

Titanic Writing Project Assignment

You will be writing a poem for two voices using two of the following:

1st Class Passenger on the Titanic

2nd Class Passenger on the Titanic

3rd Class Passenger on the Titanic

Crew Member on the Titanic

or

Select two characters from Gordon Korman's Titanic: Unsinkable Book One or Titanic: Collision Course Book Two

Poems should:

- be at least 10 lines long (alternating voices)

- have opposing figures talking

- have at least 3 lines in common throughout the poem

Example:
Line 1: Spoken Alone(Voice One)
Line 2: Spoken Together 
Line 3: Spoken Alone (Voice Two)
